3:00 p.m. - Pirate Day & Treasure Hunt - at low tide

Back in the day ... there were lots of pirates in Newfoundland, including the famed Peter Easton. In fact, John Guy waited until fall to set out on his journey because they were having so many problems with pirates in Cupids. Who knows? Maybe Guy and his men stashed some treasure here to keep it away from the pirates. Or perhaps the pirates just came here on their own. Join our search for a pirate's treasure.

5:00 p.m. Jiggs Dinner - Lions Community Centre ($10)

A Jiggs dinner is a traditional Newfoundland meal of salted meat, vegetables and a pudding made from yellow split peas. All the ingredients are cooked in boiling water. With very little fresh meat, early Newfoundlanders used corned or salted meat in many meals. Using home-grown vegetables and dried yellow split peas, jiggs dinner became one of the most common of these meals. And it's still one of our favourite meals. Come join us at the Lions Community Centre for a traditional Jiggs dinner.
