On November 6, 1612, Governor John Guy and other colonists from Cupids, Newfoundland, met with a group of Beothuk near Frenchmen's Island in Sunnyside harbour. They danced, shared a meal and exchanged gifts.
In honour of that joyful event, Guy named our harbour Truce Sound. The next day the colonists began construction of a building on Frenchmen's Island for future meetings.
